Training of flight and cabin crew members implementing in-flight security measures
Learning objectives
To gain the essential knowledge for conducting aircraft security searches, which includes knowledge of prohibited items and shelters and how to react to their findings.
Course content
- legal requirements for aircraft security searches
- elements contributing to the establishment of a robust and resilient security culture in the workplace and in the aviation domain, including, inter alia, insider threat and radicalisation
- configuration of the type(s) of aircraft on which the person is to implement aircraft security searches
- identification of prohibited articles
- response to the detection of prohibited articles
- how prohibited articles may be concealed
- ability to implement aircraft security searches to a standard sufficient to reasonably ensure the detection of concealed prohibited articles
In addition, when the person holds an airport identification card, training also includes:
- previous acts of unlawful interference with civil aviation, terrorist acts and current threats
- legal framework for aviation security
- objectives and organisation of aviation security, including the obligations and responsibilities of persons implementing security controls
- configuration of the screening checkpoint and the screening process
- access control and relevant screening procedures
- airport identification card used at the airport

Course content
- how to protect and prevent unauthorised access to aircraft
- elements contributing to the establishment of a robust and resilient security culture in the workplace and in the aviation domain, including, inter alia, insider threat and radicalisation
- procedures for sealing aircraft
- identification card systems used at the airport
- procedures for challenging persons and circumstances in which persons should be challenged or reported
- emergency response procedures
In addition, when the person holds an airport identification card, training also includes:
- previous acts of unlawful interference with civil aviation, terrorist acts and current threats
- legal framework for aviation security
- objectives and organisation of aviation security, including the obligations and responsibilities of persons implementing security controls
- configuration of the screening checkpoint and the screening process
- access control and relevant screening procedures

To gain the relevant knowledge to implement the security measures on board the aircraft. To be able to communicate with potentially disrupted passenger or hijacker. To gain the relevant knowledge for protection of the aircraft and for conducting aircraft security searches.
Course content
- previous acts of unlawful interference with civil aviation, terrorist acts and current threats
- elements contributing to the establishment of a robust and resilient security culture in the workplace and in the aviation domain, including, inter alia, insider threat and radicalisation
- objectives and organisation of aviation security, including the obligations and responsibilities of flight and cabin crew members
- how to protect and prevent unauthorised access to aircraft
- identification of prohibited articles
- how prohibited articles may be concealed
- ability to implement aircraft security searches to a standard sufficient to reasonably ensure the detection of concealed prohibited articles
- configuration of the type(s) of aircraft on which the person is to implement aircraft security searches
- flight deck protection during the flight
- reporting procedures
- response to security related incidents and emergencies on board an aircraft
In addition, if applicable for person, training also includes:
- procedures for sealing aircraft
- procedures relevant to carriage of potentially disruptive passengers on board an aircraft
- handling persons authorised to carry firearms on board
